NYSC CAMP CHECKLIST AND TIPS: ITEMS, EQUIPMENT AND PREPARATION
Congratulations to all prospective corps members as they begin preparations for the three-week compulsory NYSC Orientation Camp exercise.
Here is a comprehensive guide to help prospective corps members have a smooth experience in camp, from the first day of registration until the end of the orientation exercise.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
NERD CLEARANCE SLIP
This is an official document that confirms that a university graduate has successfully uploaded their final-year project to the Nigerian Education Repository and Databank (NERD).
This document is required for camp clearance, and PCMs are advised to go along with it.
STATEMENT OF RESULT
This is an official document issued by an institution to its graduate after the graduate has met the requirements for graduation, received the approval of the university senate, and completed the necessary clearance processes.
SCHOOL ID CARD
This serves as a means of identification and confirms that an individual is a student or graduate of a particular institution.
PCMs are expected to come along with their school ID card and should also make photocopies of it.
PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS
Passport photographs will be required for several purposes during camp, including registration and account opening. They may also be attached to meal tickets.
All prospective corps members are advised to report to camp with at least 12 passport photographs.
PCMs should endeavour to take their passport photographs before arriving at camp, as the cost of taking them within the camp may be higher.
MEDICAL FITNESS CERTIFICATE
This is a document that confirms an individual’s medical fitness.
All PCMs should endeavour to carry out the required medical examination at a certified medical centre and come along with the result to the orientation camp.
PCMs are advised not to patronise unverified or illegal merchants who advertise and sell medical fitness certificates online. Documents presented at camp will be scrutinised.
GREEN CARD
The Green Card is a document available on the dashboard of every prospective corps member before the orientation exercise. It becomes available after the call-up letter has been received and contains the personal information of the PCM.
It should be printed and brought to the orientation camp with at least six photocopies.
NIN
The National Identification Number (NIN) is used to verify the identity and citizenship of PCMs and may also be required when opening a bank account in camp.
PCMs are advised to come along with their NIN details.
MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL LICENCE
This is specifically for medical PCMs who have completed their housemanship programme.
They are advised to come along with the relevant professional licence for registration at the orientation camp.
IT CERTIFICATE
This is specifically for polytechnic graduates.
They are expected to provide this document as proof that they completed their one-year Industrial Training (IT) programme. It is important for orientation camp registration.
ADDENDUM
The Addendum serves as a guide containing important directives and requirements for prospective corps members.
It is displayed when a PCM logs into their NYSC portal.
All PCMs are advised to read it carefully and come along with the required copies. It is also advisable to have the original document available.
FOR FEMALE MARRIED PCMs
Female married PCMs are expected to make the following additional documents available:
Marriage Certificate
This is a recognised document that validates a marriage. It helps verify the claim of being married and supports the NYSC process for accommodating the PCM’s marital circumstances during the service year.
Newspaper Publication
This is important where there has been a change of name.
If the name of a married PCM has changed from the name appearing on her educational documents to her husband’s surname, she is expected to publish the change of name in a national newspaper and come along with a copy to the orientation camp.
Domicile Letter
This letter can be obtained from a government council office. It states the current place of work or residence of the female PCM’s husband and may assist with her posting so that she can continue to fulfil her marital responsibilities while participating in the compulsory service year.
Every other document listed in the general requirements is also required for female married PCMs. They are expected to provide these documents during registration at the orientation camp.
DOCUMENTS FOR FOREIGN-TRAINED GRADUATES
PCMs who obtained their higher education outside Nigeria are expected to provide additional documents to validate their educational qualifications and claims.
International Passport
This is a travel document that contains specific information about its holder and provides access to other countries.
All foreign-trained PCMs are expected to provide their international passport during camp registration.
Residence Permit
This is a legal document that validates the stay or residency of a foreign-trained PCM in the country where they studied.
It serves as evidence that the PCM lived and completed their education in that country.
All foreign-trained PCMs are advised to come along with this document.
Evaluation Letter
This document is issued by the Ministry of Education in Nigeria. It is used to assess the accreditation and validity of the foreign institution and the course of study completed by the PCM.
Where an institution does not meet the required criteria, the qualification may not be accepted for NYSC purposes.
Foreign-trained graduates should also come along with other documents applicable to them, as listed in the requirements section and displayed on their NYSC portal.
PERSONAL HYGIENE AND SELF-CARE ITEMS
Every PCM who meets the applicable requirements and is admitted into camp should pay attention to proper hygiene and personal care throughout the orientation exercise.
