The unfortunate antecedents in our national history gave impetus to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps by Decree No. 24 of 22nd May 1973, which stated that the NYSC is being established \u2018with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is always a certain excitement in the air whenever NYSC registration draws nearer. Many graduates from higher institutions of learning are already on the ground, anticipating the commencement of registration. On the set date, the website is usually slow because of the massive traffic it receives. As early as 1 AM on the set date, interested candidates are already navigating the website, struggling to meet up with the required number of corps members needed for that batch.<\/p>\n<p>It is indeed a struggle for many. Some even go as far as sleeping in cybercaf\u00e9s overnight just to meet up with the registration. It is during this rush that many candidates make certain errors that affect them in the long run. Some end up being sent back home from camp, which can be a very painful experience.<\/p>\n<p>I had a friend who was sent home all the way from Adamawa to Edo State. The journey was over 15 hours, and she had to make it within two days. After going through all the stress of the journey, she was sent back home. It was really unbearable. She cried as much as she could, but nothing could be done to remedy her situation. She had spent a huge amount of money preparing for the trip, in addition to the hours spent on the highway. She also had consumables that she had prepared to supplement the regular camp meals.<\/p>\n<p>The NYSC camp protocols are strict and are strictly adhered to. They are not bent for anyone. If you do not meet the requirements at the point of registration and still go ahead to navigate your way through, or you unknowingly make a mistake during registration, you could be sent back home.<\/p>\n<p>Most times, these mistakes might be caused by caf\u00e9 operators who are in a haste to attend to more clients, so they end up doing a bad job. Some of these mistakes can actually go beyond the camp process. Even though this may seem impossible, I myself encountered this problem because I was overexcited. The joy of registering for <a href=\"https:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NYSC<\/a> overwhelmed me, so I just chose <em>Sign In<\/em>. Then I was stuck because I did not have the details the site was requesting from me.<\/p>\n<p>It was then that I had to put myself together and begin the whole process again. Another thing that caused this mistake for me was that I was in a haste to beat the traffic on the website and register quickly.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Entering_the_Wrong_Year_of_Graduation\"><\/span>2. Entering the Wrong Year of Graduation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another mistake that is often made by prospective corps members during registration is entering the wrong year of graduation. If the year of graduation on a graduate\u2019s Statement of Result does not match the one used when filling out the NYSC online form, it can affect the corps member when he or she gets to camp.<\/p>\n<p>That singular mistake has sent many corps members back home from camp. This mistake is mostly made out of ignorance of the proper orientation from the host school. Every student ought to be aware that the year of graduation is the year written on the Statement of Result or certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Many graduates go ahead and enter the year they wrote their last paper in school, and this has caused many problems in camp. So, if you wrote your last paper in 2021 but your Statement of Result was issued in 2026, your official year of graduation is therefore 2026, which is what will be written on your Statement of Result. That is what you are supposed to upload on your NYSC portal during registration.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Incorrect_Arrangement_of_Names\"><\/span>3. Incorrect Arrangement of Names<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Arrangement of names is another mistake made by many people during NYSC registration. This arises due to the inability of many graduates to differentiate between their first name, middle name, and last name.<\/p>\n<p>This mistake is not peculiar to NYSC registration alone. On any form that requires names to be written specifically in this format, many people tend to arrange them wrongly. A common issue is confusion between the first name and last name or between the last name and middle name.<\/p>\n<p>Your first name, in most cases, is the name that you are mostly called by your parents. It is the very first name that you were given, not your father\u2019s name. Your middle name is the name that comes after your first name.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a child is born and named Emeka. His mother then says, \u201cLet us add another name for him,\u201d and they add John. In his birth name, Emeka is now written as the first name, while John is written as the middle name.<\/p>\n<p>The last name is your father\u2019s name. It is most often called the surname, and it can come last or first, depending on how the document requests it.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people make the mistake of not knowing the difference between these three name formats \u2014 first name, middle name, and last name. They end up placing them in the wrong locations during registration, and this can become a problem in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>This issue of name arrangement can vary. So, if you get it right on your National Identity Card but do not get it right in your JAMB, WAEC, NECO, or BVN records, it can become a problem for you in camp. It is important that your name arrangement is properly checked and corrected before registration to prevent these issues.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Inconsistent_Date_of_Birth\"><\/span>4. Inconsistent Date of Birth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Furthermore, the issue of an inconsistent date of birth also has to be reviewed. It is widely known that people over 30 years of age cannot go for service, so some people might want to beat this age limit and end up having inconsistencies in their dates of birth across different documents.<\/p>\n<p>It might not even be a case of trying to beat the 30-year age barrier. It can also be a common error in certificates.
